Gaming Journalism Day 2

Welcome to Raft

Welcome to the game of Raft, a survival game without an objective. Your goal is to survive as long as humanly possible.

Begin by making your own level and loading into the vastness of nothing. You spawn in with only a hook and your whit to keep you alive, there are floating resources everywhere, plastic, wood, leaves and barrels, these can help you build your raft and craft the necessary tools to survive.

-Above is a variety of plastics.
-Common Plastic
-Leaves
-Wood
-Loot Barrel

The way to collect these materials is with your hook or by getting close enough that you may pick them out of the water. By holding Left Click you are able to throw your hook at different distances to collect materials that will aid you. Or wait for the materials to get close enough that you can press "E" to collect it.

Once you have these materials, this opens up a variety of options for crafting, but now one might realize that their food and water are low. This raises the question, "How do I feed myself". Now is the time to create a Water Purifier and a Small Campfire Grill with the supplies that you've collected.

Now, if you want to live you have to use the items you've just built. Place them on your raft by having them in you hot-bar and selecting them. Once you have them selected, you should see an outline of the object, left click to place and repeat for the other.

After, that make a plastic cup with a bit of collected plastic, fill with sea water (by going to the side of your raft and pressing "E" at the sea), and go close to your purifier and press "E" again. Finish by placing wood underneath in the bow like object(a popup should appear that allows you to place the wood), and it goes automatically.

A fire on both will begin after placing the wood. How will you know when the food and water are finished? When the fire goes out of course.

Lastly is the Raft itself and the attacker. Your raft is your life, you must build and expand your raft with your hammer (which you can craft) to place more items that will progress your way of life. You'll need more of those resources to build with, specifically wood and leaves. The reason for leaves is that you may craft rope which is a key part of expansion.

There are also more resources that you rarely find in barrels or can easily find on islands like stone, scrap, and different types of flowers and dyes. These others are used for style, storage, and to strengthen your raft, as well as more advanced crafting.

Now to the thing that can DESTROY your raft, the shark. All he really does is munch on the sides of your raft breaking one piece at a time. The way to save resources and your raft is to make a wooden spear and fend off the shark, he takes 3 hits then swims away but he always comes back. Then you can repair with your hammer and make the part of the raft brand-new again.

Sometimes you may die, (I myself have not yet) and loose progress, but there is no need at all to be upset. You have two options, restart completely, or load a save that you might have done in the past. But if there are no saves, think of it this way...

"This is a game where the objective is to survive, not win, but to see how far you can get".
